Medford is a great location for 5K races. Just north of Boston right off of Rt 93, The Orange Line or Rt. 28 out of Somerville and Cambridge.
With the trails in the Middlesex Fells and in the Mystic River Reservation along the Mystic River, organizers have great course options to choose from.
We have lost a few races over the years and some still seem to be well kept secrets.
Please let me know of other races that I can add. I am constantly searching for races and making updates to these directories.

2018 was the 5th year for this popular Medford 5K race.

This Medford 5K race raises money for Boston Children’s Hospital. Teams are encouraged and the largest team gets to designate where 1/3 of the race proceeds are directed at Boston Children’s Hospital.

Each year the Tufts University Graduate Student Council 5K Run/Walk becomes more and more popular. Even though they do not promote the race off campus and it is difficult to find any information on it.
All proceeds benefit Medford, Somerville and Dorchester organizations. The event is sponsored by the Graduate Student Council of Tufts University as part of their effort to support the local community.
This race starts at Eaton Hall and takes place entirely on the Tufts University campus. This helps keep expenses down and provides a challenging course for runners.
Registration is $20 and includes a shirt!
May TBD, 2019 10AM – CANCELLED?
This race takes advantage of the trails in Medford and the Mystic River Reservation. I have run this course before for another 5K race and it is a nice run through “The Res.” The race starts at Hormel Stadium which is less than a mile from Wellington Station. This makes it easy for runners in the city to come out to Medford for a great run.
Their website provides information about POTS and details on their Medford 5K. 2016 was the second running of this race.
July 22, 2018 7:45AM for the 5 Miler and 9:00AM for the 5K
2017 was the third running of this race. I ran this Medford 5K in 2015 and it was a well run production. Run entirely in the “Mystic River Reservation” you won’t have to fight traffic and you’ll enjoy some trails you may drive by every day and have never noticed.
This is the USATF Certified course on The Mystic River.
Boston Road Runners produces this race, making it one of the few Medford 5K races managed by a business. The company was formed by runners to promote running and the healthy running lifestyle. Check out their website for their other area races.
Registration is open and is $31 for the 5K and $36 for the 5 Miler. Youth rates are $23 for the 5 Miler and $18 for the 5K.

The Medford Jingle Bell run is sponsored by Lonergan Insurance and Real Estate who cover the entire operating cost of the race. This allows every dollar from fundraising to go to the students of the Medford Schools.
Each school in Medford that participates receives race proceeds in proportion to their contribution to the race.
Some high school clubs raise as much in this one event as they would in several fundraising events. And many hands make for lighter work.
This is an innovative concept in fundraising. It allows each elementary, middle school PTO and High School teams and clubs in town to have a significant fundraiser and not have to deal with all of the logistics. On Thanksgiving weekend, couldn’t we all use a 5K to get our bodies back into balance?
In 2015 the race raised $23,000 for our Medford students.
Bring the kids and make it a family run, a family tradition. Many Medford 5K races allow children to run with their parents. Some also feature shorter races just for the kids so they can have some fun and catch the running bug!
