Young at Heart

Daily Prompt: Young At Heart

What are your thoughts on aging? How will you stay young at heart as you get older?
Age is a one way passage. In our memories and fantasies we can go back to another time in our lives, or in history. But we can never truly stop, or go back in time. Each moment we are a moment older.
In my imagination I am young for ever: I will never age and live forever. I’ve had that fantasy for years. Even now, when I am finishing out the 40-something decade of my years, I still flash on that fantasy. I know it’s crazy, and to dwell on would be delusional. But it’s still fun sometimes.
An acquaintance once said that in their imaginations, all men think of themselves as 26. In the prime of their lives, as good-looking as they are ever going to get and full of piss and vinegar. I’m not sure how that works for women.
Since we cannot stay “Forever Young” we must make the most, the best, of our brief time here in this reality. Who knows what awaits us. There is no knowing and no avoiding. So let’s get on with living and being present in the moment as it is the only moment we presently have, or may ever have.

Young at Heart

I’d like to think that my running will keep me young at heart. Running keeps me fit and healthy for the most part. Running is a great way to be social and meet new people and have a good time.
Running helps reduce the stress in my life and helps clear my mind. I call running the “magic pill” that everyone is looking for.

The Voyage of Discovery

I think that continuing to learn helps you stay young at heart also. New ideas are exciting. New concepts and technologies are fun and challenge the old brain. Having something new to think about, explore and talk about with others helps keep you fresh. I love chipping away at things I do not understand.
Many of us go through several careers in our lifetime. These reinventions can be a great way to stay young at heart. To stay an explorer of life and its endless possibilities. As I mentioned before, learning new things and challenging the mind help keep the heart young.
For some, it is okay to stick to the same thing for their entire career. Some people are not explorers and they see explorers as wanderers. All that wander are not lost. Many a wanderer is engaged in the great exploration of life.
They are the seekers of something new, the next vista, the next chapter.
Live well my friends!
Andy
