Malden 5K Race Directory 2024

Malden 5K races have a storied history going back more than 40 years.
When Dave McGillivray ran from Medford Oregon to Medford, MA in 1978, he finished at the Malden Irish American Club. The club is right across the town line from Medford and was probably the best location for Dave to finish his epic run.
The official story is that he finished at Fenway Park, but I got this story directly from Dave. Maybe he continued to Fenway after stopping in Malden?
Please support these local non-profits by running one of these Malden 5K races. These events may not be as flashy as bigger races, but your registration helps your friends and neighbors in need.
Housing Families Fun Run 5K
16 November | 11:30 AM | Saturday
Housing Families has changed the format of their 5K event to a Family Fun Run. This will be an un-timed event that any one can participate in and enjoy. There is also a virtual run option if you cannot make it on November 16th.
2024 registration is open at $40.
This run is on the path along the Malden River in Medford – River’s Edge Park at 200 Rivers Edge Drive, Medford
Run, walk, or jog to raise critical funds for Housing Families‘ mission of achieving housing equity and well-being for all! Held during Homelessness and Hunger Awareness Week, the event highlights the critical need for housing during the cold winter months, as well as the significant link between physical health and a stable place to live.
Check-in begins at 10:30 and the Fun Run begins at 11:30. While the event is untimed, the festivities wrap up at 2:30PM.
Between 10:30AM and 2:30PM enjoy:
- Yoga session before the race
- Post run celebration with music, food, and complimentary drinks
- Kids activities: Balloon artist, face paint, & lawn games Kids’ Dash, which includes a complimentary t-shirt.
The race is sponsored by the My First 5K medal. As a family fun run this event is perfect for young children. Your kids will enjoy a fall walk along the river, and will be thrilled to receive the medal. Each purchase supports the mission of Housing Families.

Since this is a fundraiser, they are also offering an incentive. If you raise $300 or more you will be entered into a drawing for a week-long stay at Loon Mountain Resort!
Their goal is to raise $50,000 this year.
Wobble Before You Gobble 5K and Kids’ Dash
24 November | 10:00 AM | Sunday
Join Run Club of Malden for the annual Wobble Before You Gobble 5K race and Kids’ Dash!
Run through the streets of Malden with hundreds of fellow runners and cross our NEW start and finish line in downtown Malden. As a bonus, you’ll be helping raise money for Bread of Life, a great cause that benefits our community.
Wobble Before You Gobble includes a 5K race and Kids’ Dash (best for ages 10 and under). All 5K participants who register by the order deadline will receive a T-shirt.
2024 registration is open. $33 for the 5K, Kid’s Dash is FREE but requires registration. 5K runners who register before November 1st guaranteed their choice of race shirt size. Price increases on October 31st.
Our cause: Bread of Life is a Malden-based nonprofit that provides free food to economically struggling and disadvantaged families, individuals, youth and senior citizens in Boston’s Metro-North region.
The kid’s race begins at 9:30, the 5K begins ay 10:00 AM.
The Malden Irish American Road Race 5K and 10K

Registration was $35 for the 5K or the 10K
Race day registration was $40.
This running event is a 5K and a 10K. The Irish American Club has been hosting this race for 39 years and they continue the tradition in 2024.
This is one of the longest running local races in the Greater Boston Area. Many of my older friends have fond memories of races they ran here many years ago.
I’ve run the 10K five times and had a great time. The course is mostly flat with one good hill after the Fellsway crosses Salem Street near the Immaculate Conception Church. In 2018 I ran the 10K on a blazing hot day and many runners struggled. Here is a mapmyrun map with elevation for the 5K.
For 2023 there were 218 5K runners and 65 10K runners. There was a great party, plenty of beer and hot dogs and some great raffle prizes.
Proceeds benefit the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
Malden 5K Race Directory Additions?
Is your group looking to start a 5K in Malden? The schedule is wide open now that many races have faded away. Pine Banks Park makes a great place to host a race and a good portion of your race could be run in the park.
