Screw Your Shoes
Winter Running Tip
Winter running can be treacherous. Un-plowed sidewalks, narrow streets and icy conditions can make your run dangerous. Even the best trail shoes are no match for some of the winter conditions you are likely to encounter.
Here is a DIY winter running tip to keep you on your feet: Screw your shoes.
I found this blog post by Sky Runner. It provides directions for adding screws to your running shoes to help with traction. This DIY project is much cheaper than other solutions and is a great way to get some extra miles out of an older pair of running shoes.
You can buy a kit at your local running store. Or you can go to your local hardware store and spend a quarter of the running store price.
Here is a hilarious article from Runner’s World that will give you some idea of the time and challenges that may be involved in this project.
Basically you screw sheet metal screws into the bottoms of your running shoes.
You don’t need a new pair of shoes since you are adding traction. And who would want to screw up a new pair of shoes?
Run well my friends!
