February Running 2016

Other than syncing my watch to Garmin Connect, I haven’t been keeping track of my running miles. Now that I have a deadline to be in marathon shape, it’s time to pay attention.

February Running

In January I ran 63.22 miles. One week I only ran 6.23 miles and two weeks I ran more than 21 miles. Not very consistent.

In February I ran 68.53 miles. My lightest week was 11.25 miles and this week I maxed out of 24.63. While mileage is important for marathon training, consistent training is also important.

Since I cannot ramp up to 40 or 50 mile weeks, I need to focus on consistency. February was much more consistent than January. The first three weeks were in the teens, the last week bumped up after I found out I had a marathon bib.

This week’s Sunday Long Run is 18.1 miles. I barely made it through 14.3 miles last week. I made a few mistakes last week. Hopefully paying more attention will help me out this week.

The plan is to run each Sunday for my long run. During the week I will run 2-3 times as my schedule and health permit. This week I managed two 5 mile treadmill runs. While not very exciting, I managed to get in my miles and allow my cold to get much better.

It is difficult to get in more than 5 miles on the treadmill at work. I need 43 minutes or so to do the run and then there is showering and getting back to my desk. All of that could easily take more than an hour.

The plan going forward will be, Sunday Long Run, Tuesday Night club run of 6+ miles and then one or two 5 mile runs at work. If the weather is nice I may get outside during the day.

This will give me at least two and possibly four 30+ mile weeks. For a serious marathon runner that’s a light schedule. Even for me it’s a little on the light side.

To maintain a consistent schedule I need to avoid injury and I need to get rid of my cold. Compromises need to be made.

FamilyAid Boston

Family Aid, boston marathon, fundraising, running for home

I’m grateful to FamilyAid Boston for letting me join their team. They do important work for families in need and I am proud to be fundraising to help them help others. I will have my own struggles with getting ready to run and raising the money I have pledged to raise.

My problems pale in comparison to the problems faced by families forced from their homes. I just saw a report today that said house prices increased 5.8% in Q4 2015. As it becomes more of a struggle for families to buy and keep homes, more are forced into rentals.

With demand for rentals growing, landlords are free to ask what they want for rent. At some point some families are forced out of their apartments due to increased rent or non-renewal of leases.

FamilyAid Boston is there to help these families find temporary shelter and find new housing that they can afford. To learn more about FamilyAid Boston click here.

Run well my Friends!
