Race Bib Tape Review
Have you ever attached a race bib to your shirt that wasn’t crooked?
I’ve run thousands of races and I hardly ever get a bib on straight the first time. Usually it takes several attempts and it’s hardly ever “right”, and I end up settling for close enough.
And if the bib sags or bulges, you have to worry about catching a finger in the bib and ripping it off of your shirt. Or ripping your shirt.
When I run a race I want to focus on my running and not if my bib might get ripped off during the run.
Have you ever wanted to race in your favorite race shirt or a lucky shirt? Who want’s to put pin holes in a favorite shirt? I have singlets specifically for races because they already have holes and pulls and I don’t have to worry about a few more.
If you go to a big race like The Boston Marathon or London, do you want to poke holes in that race shirt?
With Race Bib Tape, you can wear your favorite shirt to any race and never poke a hole in it. Never get a pull in the fabric, and never stick your self with a pin!
Race Bib Tape to the Rescue
Race Bib Tape is a simple solution that even I can use. I received a sample of six pieces of tape to try out and review.
I ran a 5 Mile road race on a frigid February day in Cambridge, MA a few years ago and used the Race Bib Tape for my bib. Between the crowd and the cold, I figured this would be a good test.
Attaching my bib was so simple. I put my bib face down on the table, peeled the backing off of two pieces of Race Bib Tape and placed one strip on each side of my bib. Then I took the back side off of the double-sided tape and carefully placed the bib on my shirt.
I got the bib on straight my first try! It was a bit off-center, but this was the first time I ever used Race Bib Tape. Each time I used Race Bib Tape, my placement got better.
The shirt in the picture is one of those race singlets I don’t worry about poking more holes in or pulling the fabric. But no new holes that day!
I thought about adding a safety pin for, well safety. What if the tape didn’t hold in the February cold, or if I bumped into someone or got a thumb under my bib?
I have ripped a corner of a bib a few times. I’ve finished a race with only two pins holding my bib. Bibs can get tugged on during a race.
If I pulled this bib off, would the tape re-attach to my shirt?
Fortunately I didn’t have to put Race Bib Tape to that test. It held the entire race and I never worried about it falling off. I was so confident that it would hold, I never thought about it the entire race.
With the tape on either side of the bib, the bib was flat against my shirt and held the bib close to my shirt. It would have been difficult to get a thumb under the bib and rip it off of my shirt.
Even in the cold the bib stayed attached until I got home and peeled it off. When I looked, my shirt had no residue or tape marks, there was nothing.
Some people have complained that the adhesive left a residue or seemed to bond with their shirt. I haven’t had that problem. It may have to do with the shirt’s fabric or the temperature.

Thanks Andy. Iโll have to pick up some tape. I have so many snags and holes in my shirts from pins.
What a cool idea. I’m sitting here with a group of runners discussing this idea and we are very impressed and curious. Thanks for the great review. I’m going to have to go find some and try it out.
I was surprised how well they worked.
The magnets held really well also, but they were so strong it was difficult to make adjustments.

I’ve never heard of this. It’s a great idea and I agree it would be a cool thing for race directors to put in swag bags.
The bib magnets are a great idea, but they still make it a challenge to get your bib on straight.
With the tape, you have a pretty good shot at getting it right.
