Running Miles Update
Running Miles Update
Do you track your running miles? Many runners and cyclists set mileage goals and keep track of their progress over the course of the year or a season.
On June 30th, 2014 my miles to date were 458. My 2014 goal is 1,000 miles.
I was a little behind, but I’m starting to catch up.
For fun, I decided to look at my annual totals on Garmin going back to 2011. As of July 27th, 2014 I’ve managed to run 532.63 miles during 67 running activities.
Accounting for the six weeks I took off due to injury and post marathon recovery, I have averaged 3 runs per week. I’m catching up.
Since 2011 my activity count and miles have increased. I was close to 1,000 miles last year. I think I have a pretty good shot at 1K miles this year.
My average heart rate has gone from the low 160’s to mid 150’s since 2011. My speed is a little slower than last year (6.7 vs 6.9) but my elevation gain is more than all of 2013 and it is only July. That probably explains the slight decrease in average speed.
I’m registered for Baystate and have started training already. With about 10 weeks to go, I should be able to add another 300 miles to my total. I may run Philly in November also. While I will run that race more for fun than a PR, I will need to train for it. With about a month between Baystate and Philly, and the need to take a week off after Baystate, I’ll only have about three weeks to train for Philly. Probably not a lot of miles.
- Do you set mileage goals?
- How are your miles to date adding up so far?
- Did you set different types pf goals like PRs or numbers of races?
Run well my Friends!

I think you definitely have 1000 in sight – just stay healthy! I am definitely tracking BayState, know at least a few people who’ll be hoofing it through Lowell this fall ๐
I don’t have a fall marathon – two halfs and an ultra, though … ๐
That sounds like plenty!
Andy – you will get a 1,000 miles no problem and have fun at BayState. I was wondering you have a couple of avgs on your readout, do you have avg run, from following your posts this year, it seems as the the average number of miles you are doing is more? just wondering.
No marathons for me this fall, just focusing on getting/staying healthy. I might run the Maine 1/2 Marathon in October – if I am feeling good, if not, will stick to the 5K land. ๐
Hi Andy,
Have you registered for your fall marathon yet? – yep see you at Bay State
How are you 2014 miles adding up? – I’m at 1068 (28 miles round the lake this weekend helped!)
Did you set a mileage goal? I have 2000 in mind – but tapering and recovering from marathons messes with things! I think I’ll probably get there if I stay healthy.
Cheers,
Paul
Paul,
Good to see you this weekend. What a race!
2000 miles is very impressive.
I’ll see you at Baystate…untill I can’t keep up with you! ๐
Cheers – Andy
At the start of the year my goal was 1500. Now I’ll be glad if I get anywhere close to 1K. So far I am not on track for that due to all these injuries. I track with my Garmin app. ๐
No fall marathon for me this year, but looking forward to lots of miles training for Dopey once my foot starts cooperating a little better!
Those injuries! My left knee has been acting up and this weekend did it no good. Too many miles.
1K isn’t bad. And there’s always next year!
You definitely can hit 1,000 miles. I am afraid to look at my summary in Garmin. Glad you reminded me it will be good to check it to see how this years training compares to a few years ago when I was training to be a BQ.
Let me know what you find. Having a goal is always good. Telling everyone about it is a good way to keep your butt in gear!
Cheers – Andy
Wow well done! Sure you will meet your 1000 mile goal! ๐
Dan,
Appreciate the vote of confidence!
